Twitter: Using Hootsuite to Manage Your Account

I love using Hootsuite to manage my Twitter activity. I didn’t really get Twitter until I started using an application to manage it (although their interface has got better since, I have to admit!).

So, why do I think that Hootsuite is so good?

You can time tweets as you write them to post later, which can be handy if like me you only look at it intermittently. I used to spend five or ten minutes on the site and tweet/retweet one after the other and then disappear for a while. Now I can tweet one thing and then time the others to be sent half an hour / an hour later or even the next day. I find this particularly useful when I’m tweeting links to useful content as a steady stream of links posted one after the other for a few minutes is not quite as useful, I don’t think, as a number of them being posted throughout the day.

Manage your Facebook and LinkedIn Accounts too

You can also manage more than one account – if you have more than one, I can barely cope with just the one! And you can add your other social media updates into it so that you can create the updates in just one interface. I have my Facebook Fan Pages, my Facebook Personal Profile and my LinkedIn status update on there too.

You can also add as many columns as you like – there is probably a limit but I haven’t found it yet. You can have columns with keyword searches, contacts organised by using Twitter lists, your scheduled tweets and one with your sent tweets.

I have recorded a short video to show you how I use Hootsuite to manage my Twitter (and Facebook) presence. It isn’t designed to be an instruction video, just a quick (well, quick-ish!) gallop around my account on Hootsuite, but I hope you find it useful anyway!
